Blogger Template: Sartorial 2 and Sartorial 3 (free!)

In the spirit of sharing, we've decided to open up our Sartorial 2 and Sartorial 3 templates for free download!

Unlike most templates that you download from the web, these make full usage of the Template customization tool in Blogger giving you the feedom to change the design to match the needs of your individual site and style.

Perfect for high-end food, fashion, style, or home-focused blogs, these templates put your images in the best light with a minimal design aesthetic, functionality that elevates your images, and are both fully customizable via the Blogger Template Customization tool. Fonts, column widths, colors, etc. are all adjustable. The fixed sidebar on the left is left minimal for easy navigation.

These templates will make your photographs and blog posts POP!

Features of these templates:
  • Engineered so you can completely customize it via the Blogger Template Customization tool
  • Left column is also fixed enabling a clean navigation bar and header
  • Images automatically resize to go full column width with 0 margins
  • If you set the "alt" text for an image, when you mouse over that image, the alt text is shown like an in-line caption
  • Pinterest button all set up
  • Uses Blogger's Lightbox functionality
  • Right column that scrolls enabling you to have plenty of widgets as well as advertising and sponsorship links (in Sartorial 3)

Download the Sartorial 2 template or download the Sartorial 3 template.

If you decide to use this template please leave a comment on this page, that way I can notify you if updates are made to the template.

Due to our work schedule we are no longer providing free assistance in customizing these templates. If you would like assistance please consider hiring us to customize your site for you.

  1. Thank you so much. I've been using dynamic views on my Blogger blog but it's time for a change. Now I just need to decide which one I'm going to use. :)

  2. It's much nicer than the standard templates!

  3. Thanks for these templates... they are quite nice. I downloaded both, but am partial to Sartorial 2. I'm not switching to it on my main blog but do plan to use it for one or two other sites I'm developing. By the way, do you have a template or one in the works for a portfolio-style presentation (ie. for artists to showcase their works)? Thanks also for your helpful Blogger tips.

  4. I finally got a chance to install this template on my blog. I'm really pleased with it and I was able to verify my blog in Bing Webmaster tools and restore CommentLuv through Intense Debate. It was so easy to modify the colors and fonts with the Blogger Template editor!
    I had a little trouble getting my logo to line up correctly, so it's not really centered but it's not really noticeable to most people. Thanks again!

      My question is: is it possible to, somehow, put that logo picture i have on my blog, over posts... i mean... i would like to have the look of my blog like it is now,but with one fixed and one scrollable part like in your template(i could resize logo picture to fit to scrollable part of template)..?? Sorry for my english..it's not my native language.. :))

    2. Sure, why not put it in the Header gadget and modify that gadget to not be text-based like it currently is? Should look just fine!

      Btw, have you read our post about putting in alt tags for your images? Sartorial 2 and 3 have the caption code already built in :)

  7. I don't really use alt tags. Google seems to index my images without them however the having the caption code already built in will be super convenient, thanks for the info!

  11. I wanted to ask how to get the Follow by email feed to work. Every time someone tries to use that it kicks back with an error message. Any advice? Thanks.

    1. Hi Kaili, try removing the Follow by Email gadget, then in the Layout page, re-adding it. Perhaps there was a bug in it previously?

  12. Is there a way to make the images not automatically resize to fill the whole column? I usually love that, but sometimes I need the image to remain small.

    I love, love, love the template (Sartorial 3) for my blog (littleshannonbigworld.blogspot.com).

    1. Hi Shannon, so if you're looking at the template code, lines 860 to 880 deal with two things: making the image go full width, and then implementing the hover code for the image captions. You can remove those 20 lines and it will no longer force images full width.

      Delete
    2. Thank you for the response! Is it possible to change it just for one post, or does the change need to be made to the template itself? Forgive my ignorance.

    3. Hi Shannon, the change is to the template.

  13. I think I posted in the wrong blog so I'm going to repeat myself here. When people install this template they should make sure to remove Blogger's navigation bar or else it will be pushed to the bottom of the template, and you may not notice for a while.

    Is there a way to make the fixed sidebar taller? I've been playing around with the code, but nothing seems to be working. I would like to put an ad unit in the fixed sidebar, but it's too short to hold the navigation tabs and the tall ad column I want to add. Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello, are you referring to Sartorial 2 or Sartorial 3? If you're looking to add a tall sidebar to the right side I'd recommend Sartorial 3 instead of 2, especially if you're putting ad units in there.

    2. Hi David,

      Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at S3. The sidebar is naturally taller than S2, but I was wondering if I could make it taller. I tried adding a section for height in the CSS, but it didn't seem to do anything.

    3. Can you post the blog url? Sounds like a bug, but not sure what you mean.

  14. Is there an easy way to remove the "Posted by..." line from the post footer?

    And, as a previous commentor commented - the right sidebar is shorter than the page height, leaving a open space that makes it seem like it's just hanging there.

    Also if the browser window is small the lower part of the left sidebar gets cut off and doesn't scroll with the page (I.E., Firefox, Chrome & Safari). Any way to change that? (didn't say fix that because it may not be a broken thing...)

    1. Hi Monta, I'll see if I can find the bug and post a fix to it. regarding the left sidebar, the best way would be to un-stick the left navigation. You can do this by removing the "position: fixed" in the #innerleft element.

  15. Hi David
    thanks for your template (S3)! Finally I've found smth nice for my blog.

    I have some questions though:
    1. when searching in the blog the results page looks incorrect. here's the screenshot http://d.pr/i/n0Mo
    2. also I can't understand why the lists look like that http://d.pr/i/kRXw

    thanks in advance

    1. Hi Alexey, the first one is a problem I've also found with certain widgets that use clear: both. I've added a hack/fix that you can try by adding into the JQuery:

      $('#Blog1').find('div').each(function(n, layer){
      var layer = $(layer);
      if (layer.css('clear') == "both") layer.css('clear','none');
      });

      For number two, I just hadn't put any thought (sorry!) into ordered lists. In your CSS add margins/padding for your OL and UL elements manually and you'll be fine.

  16. Hey David,

    I've jumped over to using sartorial 2, but I'm having a problem with removing the #innerleft:fixed
    When I do this it pushes down the blog section of the page like this http://general.thesocialsketch.com/

    Would you be able to help me out? I've tried position:relative and position:fixed but it doesn't change anything. Thanks!

    1. Hi Tyson, this is one of the challenges of working in Blogger, mainly that your template is sometimes at the mercy of the css in the widgets that you add. In this case it's CSS being added that has clear: both.

      Below this line:
      $(document).ready(function(){

      Add:
      $('.inner').find('div').each(function(n, layer){
      var layer = $(layer);
      if (layer.css('clear') == "both") layer.css('clear','none');
      });

      Not the greatest solution, but it fixes the issue.

    1. Nicely done! Quick suggestion: make the maximum width of your blog ~1100 pixels wide. Wider than that and it won't show well for people on many laptops.

  18. This is awesome, thank you! I finally found something I'm happy with for Blogger :) I do have a question, though. My 'search preferences' where I'm supposed to be able to input a custom description for each post doesn't show up. I found a guide on adding to template, but when I looked at the code it's already there... so I don't know why it isn't available to me. Any ideas?

  21. Hi,

    I'm going to use Sartorial 3 for a company blog and I want to change the logo on the upper left sidebar. Is that sidebar in one piece or can it be edited separately? I just want to replace the logo with ours.

    Can I move the "subscribe to" section and other stuff on the side bars (except the nav bar).

    I'm accustomed to using WordPress so I'm not familiar.

  22. Hi David,thank you very much for your beautiful templates. I am trying to change the blog title backgrond color to black in the Sartorial 3 template. Where would be the code for doing that?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love the Sartorial 2 design and I'm currently trying to tweak it for installation on my own site. I wonder, though, if it's possible to eliminate the far-right column (the one with the "Older Posts/Home/Archive" links in the image above)? Couldn't see a way to do it via Blogger's Layout arrangement tool, and nothing obvious jumped out at me in the CSS code.
